Monday, April 20th, 1981: Everything clicked on the hill today for Taylor Collins of the McAllen Royals as he hurled his club to a 1-0 shutout win over the Alice Ideals, limiting them to 4 hits while recording 5 strikeouts and yielding 2 walks. He overpowered some batters with his fastball and buckled knees with his sharp breaking pitches.
"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," the Ideals manager said, "but we weren't able to get to him."

Monday, April 20th, 1981: The Gulf League has named its Top Player of the Week. The honor went to Jorge Miranda, catcher of the San Antonio Bears.
In an extraordinary hitting display, he belted out hits at a .481 pace to win the award. Miranda went 13-27 for the week, totaled 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 9 times.

Monday, April 20th, 1981: So far in his young career, Patrick Griffith has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Rio Grande League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 22-year-old McAllen Royals left fielder hit at a torrid .467 clip as he collected 14 hits in 30 at-bats, 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
