538 uses OOTP 18 to forecast Buster Posey’s career!

Updates: Rebuilding the San Diego Padres, another Trenton Thunder event, and an OOTP 18 patch!

If you missed the MLB Network appearance by OOTP Developments’ Chief Marketing Officer, Rich Grisham, on July 28, don’t worry: you can check it out on our YouTube channel. And if you want to know more about the sims Grisham talked about -- they featured Sonny Gray (New York Yankees), Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), and Justin Verlander (Detroit Tigers) -- check out our latest blog post for a deeper dive into them.

FiveThirtyEight sims the rest of Buster Posey’s career with OOTP 18

Last time, we let you know about a new partnership with Nate Silver’s forecasting site FiveThirtyEight, which started with an interesting question: How would Ryan Howard’s career have turned out if the dreaded defensive shift was magically erased?

Their next “What if?” scenario involved simulating the rest of Buster Posey’s career to see if he might join the 18 other catchers who have been enshrined at Cooperstown. Check out the article to see what happened.

If you have some “What if?” scenarios of your own you’d like to try, get your copy of OOTP 18 and try them out. Find out why Mets Chronicle called the game “a must have for any hardcore baseball fan or historian.”

Rebuilding the San Diego Padres: 2019-2020

T.J. Lauerman, OOTP’s Baseball Community Manager, has been guiding the San Diego Padres through a rebuilding project that saw the team suffer a rough 2017 season before getting a glimmer of hope with an 80-82 record in 2018.

How’d the team do in 2019 and the beginning of 2020? Read our latest blog post to find out.

OOTP Night with the Trenton Thunder

We have a new partnership this year with the Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. On July 4, they helped celebrate the American holiday by hosting an Out of the Park Baseball night at their ballpark, and on August 24, we returned for Hockey Night at the stadium.

We had a blast, as did the fans, although Trenton fell to the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 5-1. However, Trenton has clinched their division championship and is headed to the playoffs. We congratulate them on a great season and thank them for their support this year.

Last OOTP 18 update is out

We’re already working hard on OOTP 19, but long-time fans know that we keep updating the latest version of the game late into the MLB season. We recently released a maintenance patch, version 18.7.74. You can read all about it on our forum.
