Who Would Win the World Series if the Season
Ended at the All-Star Break?
Own the Future. Rewrite the Past.
The non-waiver trading deadline has passed, and some teams have positioned themselves to make a push for the postseason while others decided to retrench and plan for the future. No matter what your favorite team did, we're sure you're just as excited as we are to see how this season ends.
In fact, we were so excited that, as the All-Star Game break approached, we decided to sim the postseason in OOTP 17 as if the season ended on July 6. We wrote about what happened on our blog and think you'll agree that it was an exciting finish. ("An enthralling and entertaining experience," as 60 Minutes With said in their OOTP 17 review.) We hope the real season ends with the same bang.
Do you have any stories from 2016 season sims to share? Let us know about them on Twitter and Facebook. Be sure to also follow the Out of the Park Developments Twitch channel, where T.J. Lauerman streams OOTP 17 on Wednesday evenings at 9 PM ET and Adam Burnett hosts Franchise Hockey Manager 2 streams one hour later at 10 PM ET!
Latest OOTP 17 Update Adds Playoff Game Recaps and More
Speaking of stories: Make sure you install the eighth OOTP 17 update, version 17.10.67, which features recaps for playoff games, the option to disable rainouts, and much more, including many fixes and improvements. You can read all about it on our forum, where you'll find the download links. (If you bought OOTP 17 through Steam or the Mac App Store, you must update the game there.)
Note: On Friday we released an earlier version of the update, version 17.10.65. However, it introduced a few critical issues, so if you have installed the eSellerate version from our forum post, please update to the latest version. The Steam version update will happen automatically if you have auto-updates enabled.

Wayne Thompson: Online Leagues Are His Passion
In addition to playing through the current season and beyond, OOTP 17 lets you explore baseball's rich history too. We recently interviewed Wayne Thompson about his historical online leagues. After running one that covered 1998 - 2013, he set his sights on 1985, two years after he was born, and launched a successor called Sandlot Baseball League.
"I grew up loving watching Tony Gwynn, Ken Griffey and Alex Rodriguez, so this was a perfect way for me to replay history and see if I could run a team better than the previous GMs and see how the players from that era play out for us," he told us.
A Battle for the Ages: 1908 Chicago Cubs vs. 1984 Detroit Tigers
An 80s theme also found its way into a unique experiment that we ran for website The Warning Sign. We used OOTP 17's exciting new Historical Exhibition Mode to pit the 1908 Chicago Cubs against the 1984 Detroit Tigers in a batch of best-of-seven series to see who might come out on top, if we had access to a time machine.
As part of the experiment, we used the Historical Exhibition Mode's "home era" advantage function to give each team more than the home field advantage in two series. While setting up a battle between two historical teams (you can also choose any two World Series teams, complete with accurate rosters), you can decide what year to use for the AI strategy and parameters.
In the case of this experiment, when Chicago had the home era advantage, Detroit left their starting pitchers in longer and found their home run hitters stifled. When Detroit had the advantage, Chicago used their bullpen more often and their hitters discovered what that thing called "a home run" was all about.
There are all kinds of ways you can use Historical Exhibition Mode and its home era advantage to settle many "Who would beat who?" arguments, so we encourage you to use this experiment as inspiration for your own scenarios. And feel free to share the results with us on Twitter and Facebook.
See you next month!
