As the 2014 season winds down and we get excited for the playoffs, we thought we'd release the final update for OOTP 15, version 15.6. Here are the changes compared to version 15.5:

• Added the ability to select teams before 1901 in a fictional setup with historical teams
• Fixed problems with licensing on MacOSX 10.9.6 and OSX 10.10 (Yosemite)
• Fixed issues with some graphic chipsets displaying 3D mode
• Improved in-game AI
• Improved play-by-play commentary
• Fixed several user reported bugs and glitches

You can download it from our forum. (Note that if you bought the game through Steam or the Mac App Store, you'll need to update it there. The update will be available there in a couple of days.)

SABR Member Chuck Hildebrandt: 'Knocked Out' By OOTP's Depth

SABR member Chuck Hildebrandt, who chairs the organization's media committee, had dabbled in OOTP a few times before he finally took the plunge and used the game for his Retroactive All-Star Game (RASG) series, which imagines that the All-Star Game started in 1916, rather than 1933. "I was very quickly knocked out by just how in-depth the game was," he told us.

That experience led to another idea: the English Baseball League (EBL), which takes the premise that baseball also took hold in England during the late 19th century, supplanting soccer and leading to the formation of a league featuring Arsenal, Manchester United, and the other teams that comprised the English Football League in reality.

"I got the inspiration immediately once I realized how incredibly in-depth and detailed a gamer could make his fictional league with OOTP, and how exquisitely customizable such leagues are," Hildebrandt says.
