OOTP 14: The Best Got Better,
and There's Still More to Come

Out of the Park Baseball 14 has been out for a little over a week, and the response has been incredible.

Bradley Woodrum may have said it best when he reviewed OOTP 14 for FanGraphs and said: "The best got better." He gave the game a 98/100 score (A+), the highest score ever bestowed upon a baseball game at FanGraphs. (The previous high score was the 97/100 given to OOTP 13.)

Gaming Trend's Patrick Rost also gave OOTP 14 top marks, scoring it 92/100 and writing: "Fantastically fun and perfectly challenging, Out of the Park Baseball 14 is a must own for any baseball wonk."

"OOTP 14 reigns supreme in the baseball gaming market," added Brad Ebert at Royals Review.

It contains the following:

  • Fixes reported bugs
  • Fixes rare crashing and freezing issues
  • Includes updated & improved major league rosters (must start new game for changes to take effect)
  • Added "Auto-play to next playoff round" to the play menu, if the league is in playoff mode
  • Added an input line which lets you modify the internal historical year of the league (progressing options in game setup) which is used for auto-import routines. That makes it easier to properly set up fictional historical leagues.

Please see here for download & installation instructions for the update.

Sam Adams: Still Looking For Parker Gooch

Sam Adams, senior sports anchor at KHQ TV in Spokane, WA, is another enthusiastic OOTP 14 reviewer. He wrote about playing the Seattle Mariners' 2013 season and said: "The best part about OOTP 14 is the game never ends."

Adams knows OOTP's never-ending gameplay quite well, since he's been enjoying the game since the late 90s. We interviewed him about his experiences for our latest article, "Sam Adams: Still Looking For Parker Gooch." He talks about his 1990s era Oakland A's replay (he moved the Giants to Tampa Bay to give the A's a larger market, among other changes), explains who Parker Gooch was, and more. Give it a read.
