2014 Dynasty Hall of Fame Results

First I want to thank everyone for voting for the Inaugural Dynasty Forum Hall of Fame. There were 21 nominees on the ballot, and 19 votes were cast. Here's a look at the ballot with a little blurb about each of the nominees:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...me-ballot.html

The nice part to see if that everyone of the nominees received a minimum of 1 vote. Before I get into the inaugural inductees, I went with the majority rules philosophy, and if a dynasty was named on a majority of ballots they were inducted. I know that differs from the actual baseball Hall of Fame, but this was meant as a way to honor some of the great dynasties that we've seen on the board, so it doesn't feel right to me to say someone who got 74% of the vote isn't in.

So without further ado, the inaugural inductees into the Dynasty Hall of Fame are:

The Base Ball Life of Patrick O'Farrell by Big Six

Orcin's Story by Orcin

P L A G U E !!!!! by metsgeek

Islandian Pro Alliance (Ruthlandia-Tycobbia) by Eugene Church

Time Warp Baseball by Matt from TN

I wrote a little bit about each of them on the ballot, and it was good to see the support that they received. It's also good to see Big Six, Orcin, and Eugene Church still plugging away and putting out dynasties today as well. I personally think that is a pretty worthwhile inaugural class, and congratulations to all five writers of the dynasties!

--------------

The next group came pretty close, but just missed out:

SHORT HOP - My Life In Baseball by David Driscoll by Tib
Beane Counting: The Story of the Oakland A's by Hendu Style
Robert J. (Bubba) Jones by dsvitak
Tiger *Fan's Sporting News: A multi-sport dynasty by Tiger Fan
2011 Toronto Blue Jays Redux by ryan008

Hopefully next year we'll see some more support for a few of these. I do have to say that I was really hoping that SHORT HOP didn't make it in. I know it's a little bit buried in the ITB section, but I hope that if you haven't read it before you take some time to do so, and vote for it next year, because I think it's a classic.

Then finally the last group:

A Baseball House Divided - the South wins the Civil War by legendsport
Yet Another OOTP6 *Dynasty: The Pale Hose by cknox0723
The Glory of the Gload by Ungrateful Dead
The Pastime Baseball League by EMSoccerCoach
Teofilo Stevenson Pro Simulation
The Greater Baseball Co-Prosperity Sphere by legendsport
Laseron Baseball Association by Goody/Portlander/Dark Horse
There's something brewing - A Badenian going America by Loeffle
Joy in Mudville: A "Friendly" Baseball League Beginning in 1970 by Joy in Mudville
Mage League Baseball by hawaiiansky
The Octopus League by Jestor
*Other

There were also a couple of write-in votes as well. For the Metro Leagues and for Worst to First, and while that definitely wasn't my intent of this whole project, thank you for the vote.

Favorite dynasties of 2013

I also asked a bonus question to vote for your favorite dynasties of the year. I don't want to say I'm surprised, but I was definitely pleased to see such variety in the responses. This was free text, so people could vote for whatever they pleased. No fewer than 17 dynasties received votes, and the majority received multiple votes.

I went with the 3 points for first, 2 for second, and 1 for third totals, and the winner for the Favorite Dynasty of 2013 is:

Orcin Returns by Orcin

And the rest of the dynasties that received votes:

ISLANDIAN PRO ALLIANCE (Ruthlandia and Tycobbia Baseball Unions) by Eugene Church

Moneyball II by Hendu Style

Worst to First The Sequel by NYY # 23

Portland Raccoons (ABL) by Westheim

Fallout: New Vegas's Mojave Baseball League by StLee

OOTP Real Time by OOTPRealTime

The (English) Baseball League (est. 1888): A History by chucksabr

MLB Replay - a new history by George_Bell

"My Baseball World" by Denny Lemaster

The Excellence Project by Nick Soulis

DELMARVA Baseball League by illeracula

IBL Chicago Iron Pigs by gehrig38

The IBL's San Diego Sun Devils by gehrig38

Any Given Sunday by NYY # 23

The New Zealand Sporting Society -by mrbucket

Baseball Hodgepodge by NYY # 23

---------------------

Once again I wanted to thank everyone for voting, reading, and sharing your dynasties with us. I apologize for any typos in the dynasties or names above. Hopefully this was a fun little exercise for everyone, and maybe you'll even discovery a new dynasty to read that will become your favorite, or this will inspire someone to try and write a dynasty report of their own. Maybe next year we'll be reading about a Korean league, or another new feature of OOTP 15.

I'll try and put a reminder so I remember to do this again next year, and maybe I'll try and start the voting a little bit earlier.

I would like to thank my first-grade teacher for those grammar lessons, and my daughter for teaching me to type with two fingers instead of one.

Seriously, it is a great honor to be on the same "podium" with those other dynasty writers. I am a newbie compared to them, so I am humbled. I started playing and writing simultaneously as a way to chronicle my journey. Now, I can't imagine playing a league without writing a report to go with it. It's both a gift and a curse. Those who do it know exactly what I mean.

I want to take this opportunity to beat the drum a little for fictional leagues. If you notice, the class is almost entirely fictional (even metsgeek used a fictional setting). To those who haven't tried a fictional league... you really owe it to yourself to give it a whirl. The only limitation is your imagination.

The burden of realistic expectations for player development and injuries are stripped away with a fictional league. If Mike Trout suffers a CEI or hits .250, the reaction can be disappointment. However, in a fictional league, it is a puzzle to be solved if the big star hits a bump in the road.

I would like to close my "speech" by thanking Markus and the OOTPD team for creating such a great game that has given me so many hours of enjoyment. We also owe all of the great people in the mods forum a huge debt of gratitude for bringing life and color to our creations.

Finally, I want to thank and salute everyone here in the dynasty forum for the motivation and support that keeps all of us coming back. The Mods section isn't the only part of this forum packed with creative talent. I think all of us respect each other's work, and the comraderie here rivals that of the Mods forum. Our work is part game testing, part tutorial, and part infomercial. But most of all, it is fun. Fun to read, fun to discuss, and fun to write.

Thanks for reading, and for voting.

I did notice that... and was a little disappointed. I am not taking anything away from the fictional dynasty writers but I was disappointed at the lack of support for amazing 'alt-history' writers like Hendu.

Oh well... still big congrats to the writers of the inducted Dynasties!

That's a good point, and I have to say that I've never really been able to get over that fictional hump for me personally, which is odd because the dynasties that I enjoy reading most are fictional ones. One day I really do need to give it a whirl.

I, too, am honored to be included in the inaugural class. As cliché as it might seem, when I started my dynasty story almost 11 years ago, I had no idea I was embarking upon a hobby I'd still enjoy over a decade later. Baseball, history, and writing have been favorite pastimes for a long time, so I suppose it was natural that I would give this a try. I've enjoyed it, and if you have too, I'm honored and flattered.

Orcin expressed his thanks to all of you who read and comment in the dynasty forums very well, and I'd like to add my thanks, too. It's fun to visit a thread I'm writing and see that several of you have commented there. Thanks for the compliments you've given and the support you've expressed.

Again, the creators of the uniforms, caps, logos, and other mods that make a great game even better deserve thanks, too. They make their creations available to us at no cost, but the additional fun and realism they bring to the game adds a tremendous amount of value. Very simply, thank you.

And, for all the work the OOTP development team has put in to create and refine OOTP, again--very simply--thank you. I hope that says enough.

I'm not planning to "retire" from the dynasty forum; I'm still having way too much fun. I'm looking forward to reading what the rest of you have in store for us.

Wow! I missed this for whatever reason (probably because I am checking the forums mostly from my phone these days while away from my laptop) and neither voted nor read about it before.

Congrats to the inductees and winner.

Also, thank you to whomever cast votes for me for dynasty of the year.

Thanks for a great job on the plaques. They are exceptionally well-done in all respects.

I used to be involved on the Logos Forum and always thought your logos were among the best.

I think if there was a Graphics Hall-of-Fame, you would be in it.

Orsin stated it perfectly.

My thanks to all of you Dynasty writers for your inspired writings.

Congratulations to the new inductees to the Dynasty Hall of Fame. I'm humbled to be even be mentioned in the company of such talented, gifted and creative writers.

Special congratulations to Orcin for being the Favorite Dynasty of 2013.

I thank all of you who continue to check in on my IPA Dynasty for the last seven years.

And thanks to the voters that thought my Dynasty was deserving of this great honor.

And a very special thanks to NYY #23 for all his hard word in creating this Dynasty Hall of Fame. You done good, my man!

Congrats on your induction, its well deserved.

No problem at all, it wasn't too much work, and it was nice to see the results and I'm really glad that you got the recognition that you deserve. I'm always very impressed by people who create fictional worlds. The fact that you did so, and have kept it running for seven years is beyond impressive to me. Keep up the good work!

What a acceptance speech

I'd like to second this about the uniform, photos, facegen and logo creators, along with Spritze and Gambo who made a better, stronger and 'alternative history' database that sparked the creativity in a many of these writers
so off the top of my head
