Fictional Ballpark Factors Calculators
With the work that Henry, Teflon Skies, Dream Teams and others creating fictional parks. i thought it would be nice to have a way come up with ballpark factors for them.
i came up with a spreadsheet to come up with ballpark factors based on the field's dimensions and walls. It's not perfect, but it's a good starting point. i used the default, Old League Park as a basis. So don't erase the first line. Just enter in the depths and heights of the outfield walls. Basically, deeper walls subtract from average and home run ratings and increase in triples. And higher walls mean lower home run ratings and higher double ratings. You can also enter a turf rating. My intentions were to use a range of 5 to -5. (Five being the fastest turf) Artificial turf would get a positive number. Parks that have a reputation for keeping the grass tall would have a negative rating. Parks with higher turf rating would increase average and triple ratings. You can also enter a foul ground rating. Again use a 5 to -5 range. A positive number means the stadium has a lot of foul ground; like some of the older ballparks. A high foul rating would lower average ratings. Anyway, give it a try if you like. (Oops, i forgot. i have to change the extension to a text file. Just rename the file replacing txt with xls. The only thing i'm considering adding would be a carry factor, to take into consideration the wind blowing out or in to a particular part of the stadium. |

After it saves, you should be able to open in Excel or any spreadsheet application capable of reading excel files.

This is a GREAT utility, and just saved me a TON of time. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Now, a suggestion/feedback/comment: I just entered in the data for my 28-team league, using all fictional stadiums that I've gathered between Henry, Teflon Skies and Dream Team. I've got the numbers copied over into my own spreadsheet so I could see what the avg ballpark factor was (in theory, you want it to come out to 100). While I realize it's not going to be able to do that, I was very amazed at how close it came in most categories. HR-L: 98.04 AVG-L: 100.00 HR-R: 97.39 AVG-R: 99.61 3B: 100.46 2B: 106.04 I noticed, as I was entering the initial data even, that a lot of stadiums had a 2B rating that seemed rather high. I think a lot of this is because of the wall height factor. Now, given, I know that taller walls should definitely yield in a higher 2B factor...I think you might adjust the formula just a little to come out lower. Out of all 28 stadiums, the lowest 2B factor I had was 96. Only 8 of the 28 stadiums were under 100. 3B seemed right on, with the low coming it at 77 and the high being 124. HR was maybe a smidge too low, but not bad. AVG was dead on, imo. The numbers obviously back that up. Great add-on. A must have for anyone doing custom stadiums.

Well what I'm doing is this....Right now I'm making a league consisting of the the teams from the PCL and the International League....I went and got all the dimensions and names for all the stadiums for all 30 teams....I am manually going to type them in....once everything is done...I will copy the .dat and .config files and eventually burn them to cd once I get enough of them together....That way I will have alot of stadiums to choose from and won't have to every do it manually again....

![]() Edit - This will sound strange but I am interested in your whole league file once you get done setting everyting up. It would even be great if you included the logos already resized. ![]() Last edited by Andy; 03-27-2003 at 11:54 PM. |

I'm almost done with it...actually.... I have the stadiums and the ratings...done...had to guess on some of the power alleys in some of the stadiums....but I can't be off by too much... League structure is done...I have to make a choice on the schedule....
Do it manually (take forever) or make a back up of the league...delete one of the PCL divisions and move them into the other 3 PCL divisions so Stickware will work... and then restore the league once the schedule has been made.. Logos are done....need to check them for transparency problems that tend to pop up from time to time... The way it will work is this the PCL uses 4 4 team divsions and the International League uses 3 division of varying sizes... With the way the playoff structure is in OOTP, the INternational League will have to have a wildcard team.... I did a test season just to see if it was going to crash and I had no problems.... SO really all I have left is the schedule and I'm debating about grabbing Stadium Photos and resizing them....I founf them all last night...most of them look like the same angle as the default stadium photo...but alas I haven't tested it yet.... Once I'm done...(ETA hopefully by Sunday) I will ask somebody how you post them...Probably on Baseball Sim Central... |

Hmmm....I looked at the size of the file...it is at the file size as of now with logos and no stadiums pics it is at 30 MB...
I didn't back up until after I did the draft...Don't ask....I was tired...I could see about releasing all the players so they will be free agents and then deleting them....that will make the size alot smaller or just break it up....the player.dat file says it is 25 MB...but if I delete the players it becomes more difficult...sense it is already past the stage where the game generates new players... Any suggestions would be good...If I had known I may post the file I would have thought about that beforehand but oh well... |

HolyCow98,
About the scheduling.....I would delete one of the PCL divisions and move them into the other 3 divisions. Also, as long as Baseball Sim Central will still upload the file (because of the size) then I don't care if you leave the players on their current teams. But of course it is your league..... ![]() |

Will on the schedule what I did was this....I backup the league...then edited the league structure moving the 4th division into the other 3 divisions...then loaded stickware..and tweaked around with the schedule till had a slightly unbalanced schedule so that teams play the teams in the real division more so than they play outside of it...and the imported the schedule in and then re-edited the league structure putting it back the way it is supposed to be....
As far as the players....It is taking so much space....25.+MB in the player.dat file....it just seems like once I get the stadiums photos and size and format them to get them ready for use that all I really would have to do is recreate the league and copy and paste as needed... but this time with no players.... I probably will break it up into 2 downloads...bitmaps...and league..just to make the download a little better but we will just have to see how big it gets.... The big hold up is finding some of these stadium photos....ones that will look something like the angle of default stadium photo is what I'm aiming at ..... |

Okay...I have two versions zipped up..one with rosters (9.58 MB) and one where I released and deleted them as free agents (1.08 MB)
A few things that I haven't put in yet that I know for my own use atleast that I will find and put in... I have not completed the stadium pics... but I will... I have the stadium dimensions but in most cases no fence data so I just gave each stadium varying wall heights.. And I haven't done the weather data yet...but I will... I did a schedule...it is by no means perfect....I could do different sized schedules but the one I have so far is 162 games...the real schedule length is 142 (I believe) I was thinking about adding one of that length as well.. I had to modify some of the logos...and actually I may look into finding better ones as most have the annoying white border that I can't stand. I did eliminate all of the transparancy problems with some of the black colors. I got the logos from the teams respective homesites... Any interest in this...any thoughts or suggestions...should I post or wait till it is completely done... Any feedback at all feel free... |

Not at all to nitpick, but shouldn't this also be a function of altitude?
